Red River Gorge, KY

One of the finest sport climbing venues in the world, the Red River Gorge is a great place for beginning climbers to learn the ropes and advanced climbers to hone their pulling skills. Guided climbing is available all year long rain or shine in the Red River Gorge proper as well as Muir Valley.

I teach beginner rock climbing courses to AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Courses here in the Red River Gorge.

The traditional “trad” climbing opportunities are endless in the Gorge proper, which facilitates a great learning environment for for the beginning trad leader. There are finger cracks to off width climbing in the Gorge proper and many good lines in the Southern Region as well.

The Red River Gorge is the home of the Rocktoberfest that happens every October. If you get a chance to come to this it is a great way to catch some clinics as well as party with some pro athletes. I will be teaching a few different clinics this year at the event that will benefit the Red River Gorge Climbers Coalition.

Muir Valley is a great place for beginners and has a few sites that Rick and Liz Weber have set up for AMGA Single Pitch Instructor courses. Muir Valley has a few top access areas for folks to learn to build anchors and work from the top of the cliff; an attribute the rest of the Gorge lacks. Check out Muir Valley’s site here!
